LAHORE: Acting on a credible tip-off, Customs officials deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIA) caught a foreign passenger red-handed while trying to smuggle drugs into Pakistan from Bangkok late Thursday night.

The operation, carried out under the directions of the Collector of Customs and led by the Deputy Collector, went down around 11:30pm.

The team sprang into action and found 15.5 kilograms of marijuana (cannabis) in the suspect’s luggage.

The drugs were promptly seized, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered. The case has now been handed over to the Collectorate of Customs, Lahore, for further investigation.

Officials say they’re leaving no stone unturned to bust smuggling networks and tighten airport security.
