Customs recovers alcohol, mobile phones from passengers at Lahore airport

LAHORE: The Customs officials have confiscated as many as 23 alcohol bottles and dozens of mobile phones from passengers travelling via different flights during various operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Sources told Customs Today that the flights were coming from Dubai to Lahore, Turkey to Lahore, Jeddah to Lahore and Muscat to Lahore. The customs team took action in PIA flights, Turkish Airways, Gulf Air and Saudi Arabian flight.

During actions in these flights, the customs staff recovered 23 bottles of alcohol. Mobile phones were also confiscated from different passengers while Customs allowed all passengers to go after confiscation of alcohol bottles from their possession.

Customs has also confiscated 2 LED of 32 and 2 LEDs of 46 inches from two passengers. The security officers have launched an investigation into the matter. Customs has started strict checking of the luggage of the passengers specially coming from European countries. Smuggling attempts are being foiled by the customs authorities. Number of attempts of smuggling of foreign currency and mobile phone accessories and other relevant items has also foiled by the customs. Customs has confiscated all the recovered alcohol bottles and has started investigations.

It is common practice that passengers coming from European countries carries bottles of alcohol with them but many times they left that in premises of airport to avoid from being arrest.
