WASHINGTON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened a new cargo inspection station Monday in Rio Grande City.
The new inspection station will reduce congestion by allowing Customs and Border Protection officers and their Mexican counterparts to conduct customs checks together. “We’re making international trade more efficient, we’re making it where it creates more jobs because we’re talking with each other. We’re sharing information,” said U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo. Cuellar attended the inauguration ceremony Monday at the bridge that connects Rio Grande City and Camargo. “In the end time is money,” said Rick Pauza, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, who added that the new process is faster and more efficient. “The truck only has to stop one time, but it’s inspected by the two countries.”
