ISLAMABAD: The Customs Collectorate Islamabad team seized miscellaneous smuggled worth thousands of rupees from Lahore-Peshawar Motorway during a crackdown on Thursday.
Sources told Customs Today that after receiving information the anti-smuggling squad intercepted a passenger bus at Chakri interchange. During the checking of the bus, the squad noticed different type of goods. The ASO team asked the driver about owner of these goods but the driver failed to provide any satisfactory reply. After failure to provide relevant documents regarding possession these goods, the ASO team seized these goods which included 400kg foreign origin fabric worth Rs 260,000.
The team also recovered imported hair oil under value of Rs 90,000, and 15 imported LEDs under value of Rs 150,000. Sources said that Islamabad Customs Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen appreciated the performance of the ASO team and directed them to continue the operations against the smuggling.
The sources said that anti smuggling activity will be continued during new financial year 2016-17 with more effective efforts, adding that anti-smuggling campaign had contributed handsome revenue in financial year 2015-16.
The Customs Preventive which conducted the above mention operation includes Superintendent Zargam Dil, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel, Inspector Abdul Malik and Deputy Superintendent Ahmed Junaid. All the goods were seized under the Customs Act, 1969 and FIR has been lodged against the accused and further investigations are still underway.
