ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal Bench-II has adjourned the hearing of several cases until February 9.
The Customs Appellate Tribunal Division Bench, comprising Muhammad Maqsood ul Hassan and Muhammad Nasir Khan heard the cases and adjourned them after hearing arguments from both sides. The bench also directed the counsel concerned to complete arguments as early as possible.
The division bench heard cases filed by Jamshed Alam and Adil Khan, who had filed cases against Customs Collectorate, Islamabad. They had challenged a penalty of Rs 6 million imposed by Customs. Another petitioner, Gabruddin and Company, Karachi, had challenged a customs department decision in which the company was found involved in evading duty of Rs 5 million while importing Ginger in 1994. The bench also adjourned the case filed by M/s AMSON Vaccines. It had challenged customs department orders panelizing it for paying short-duty in head of different imported items.
Meanwhile, single bench comprising of Muhammad Maqsood ul Hassan (Member Judicial) also adjourned cases till February 9. Single bench heard arguments filed against Collectorate of Customs and Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation.
Among appellants, Adnan Khan, Muhammad Jamil and Junaid Ali had filed petitions against customs authorities pertaining to the allegation of currency smuggling. Customs authorities had recovered foreign currency worth exceeding permitted limit.
M/s United Mobiles had filed the petition, 139/CU/IB/2015, seeking release of 160 mobiles which were seized by Directorate General Customs Intelligence Islamabad.
M/s Attock Enterprises and Zaheer Khan were contesting cases seeking relief against customs department and Director General Customs Intelligence penalization.
