Customs Appellate Tribunal dismisses case filed by vehicle owner

LAHORE: Customs Appellate Tribunal has dismissed a case filed by Abdul Sattar, a resident of Ghotki Sindh versus Collector Customs (Adjudication), Faisalabad, secretary auction committee Karachi and others.

Imran Tariq Member Technical Bench- II of Customs Appellate Tribunal heard the case and, in its final remarks, said that the appellant has failed to provide evidence of the legal import of automobiles.

according to details, the customs ASO staff intercepted Mitsubishi jeep at Chowk Bahadarpur Rahim Yar Khan. The driver introduced himself as Abdul Sattar, a resident of Ghotki Sindh, and he produced registration book and other documents showing lawful possession of the vehicle. He also produced photocopy of the documents showing that vehicle was purchased in an auction.

During the inspection, authorities found that chassis number was tampered. After overall inspection and forensic report, the vehicle was seized.

The adjudication authority heard the case and passed the order-in-original (ONO) and argued that the seized vehicle has no legality. Representative appeared on behalf of the respondent department denied all the allegation by the appellant.

After hearing  the arguments, Customs Appellant Tribunal dismissed the case in the favor of the department.
