ISLAMABAD: The Customs Appellate Tribunal on Wednesday sought a reply from the Federal Board of Revenue’s field office, Collectorate of Customs Islamabad, pertaining to the cases announced by the Customs Adjudication Department.
The tribunal’s single bench consisting of Member Technical Ziauddin Wazir heard the cases and adjourned the same with the directions to submit a reply to the department by the next date. The bench was hearing the complaints filed by Raja Nabeel Razaq and M/s Saifullah.
Raja Razaq had filed a case against the Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad while M/s Saifullah had submitted a complaint against the Islamabad Customs Collectorate.
The former appellant had prayed before the tribunal to de-seize the imported (computer) accessories confiscated by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation officials. He had challenged the department’s adjudication announcement before the tribunal, which had sustained the confiscation.
On the other hand, M/s Saifullah had also challenged a decision of the Islamabad Customs Collectorate,which was then sustained by the Adjudication Department, pertaining to the classification of goods he had imported from aboard. The appellant had prayed before the tribunal that its pray was not heard by the Adjudication Department properly. On this, the Customs Appellate Tribunal asked the relevant staff of the FBR and the Islamabad Customs to file their respective replies.
