Customs Appellate Tribunal to hear couple of tax matters today

ISLAMABAD: Customs Appellate Tribunal to resume hearing of couple of customs matters involving field offices of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday.

Customs Appellate Tribunal’s bench comprising Members Tribunal, Syed Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Nasir Khan will hear the matters.

M/s Kohinoor Traders, M/s Five Star Trading and M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited had filed the references.

During the previous hearing counsels from M/s Kohinoor Traders, M/s Five Star Trading appeared before the bench and demanded timed from the bench for finalizing preparations for the case. The bench then had directed the counsels to finalized the arguments and relating stuff and then appear before the bench next week.

M/s Kohinoor Traders, M/s Five Star Trading had filed cases against Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Islamabad.

Meanwhile, the bench sought time to review documents in a case filed by M/S WaridTelecom Private Limited. The company had challenged an announcement made by the Model Collectorate of Customs, Islamabad. The bench adjourned hearing of the case till for next Wednesday.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited had filed the case against Model Coollectorate of Customs, Islamabad. The company had filed the case in 2016.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited, through the petition, had challenged a decision announced by department’s adjudication for sustaining claims of recoverable customs duty of around Rs 40,000,000.

Tribunal had held hearing of the matter in the recent weeks week and had adjourned for further arguments. Bench had asked the counsels involved ensure their presence before the bench on next date of hearing. M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited had challenged department’s adjudication decision before the bench which had sustained claims on said recoverable amount against the appellant.

M/s Warid Telecom Private Limited’s plea 144/CU/IB/2016 was filed in January. According to tribunal’s officials, the case involved a huge amount in head of taxes.
