KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has appointed focal persons at its 16 collectorates to help importers and clearing agents file Electronic Import Forms (EIFs), while the representatives of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will also be present to help them.
The EIF has been introduced to curb illegal transfers through import payments and to prevent under-invoicing and mis-declaration as well as check money laundering.
The EIF is a joint effort of Pakistan Customs and SBP, and its pilot run was launched on August 15. Recently, the importers and clearing agents said the EIF was launched in haste and no consultations with the stakeholders were made.
