Customs Appraisement East detains ex-CEO of M/s AMI Pakistan in mega corruption case

KARACHI: Customs Appraisement East authorities has arrested Arif Humayun, former CEO of M/s AMI Pakistan in mega corruption scandal case of importers and clearing agents fraudulently mis-declared the port of loading to avail benefits under the umbrella of Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

According to the details, the arrest of Arif Humayun took place on the information of already arrested culprit Noman Rauf the manager of M/s AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd who revealed the name during an investigation of the said case.

According to the source, Arif Humayun who is the former CEO of the M/s AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd was arrested from his office and has been presented before the court.

The court has given Arif Humayun in the custody of the customs authority for further investigations and directed to produce him on March 26 with the case details, source added.

M/s AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd is the company of Marine Group – Capt Haleem Siddiqui is the chairman of group, in connivance with importers and clearing agents switched the bill of lading and mis-declared the port of loading as China instead of actual countries happened to be South Africa, UAE and Europe to claim inadmissible benefit of FTA with China.

Source further stated that, the case may take time as the mega corruption cannot be held without the involvement of the other senior officials of the Marine Group, in the light of the investigation by the former CEO of M/s AMI Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd the customs authority may raid on different places and nab other suspects involved in the case.
