NEW DELHI: According to recent news, police, customs and other government agencies have seized more than 3500 kg of gold in 2014-15. Government agencies are now fed up with capturing more and more smugglers and that is why they are now urging to make smuggling of gold legal. While members of parliament are still debating over the issue, the smugglers have found a legal way to smuggle the yellow metal in the country.
These smugglers fly down Bappi Lahiri from India to UAE in a pair of shorts and t-shirt and on his return he can be seen with 100 kg of gold all over his body. Bappi Da does two trips every day. Custom officers can’t object or stop him because he claims all the gold to be a part of his accessories. Even his Wikipedia page says, “The only man on earth who walks around with 100 kg of gold all the time.”
Bappi Lahiri can now be seen very often at the international airports in his signature dark glasses with a tracksuit and loads of gold jewellery. Government can’t detain him from smuggling gold but the agencies are planning to file a lawsuit against him for plagiarising music produced by others without giving them credit for it.
Gold has always been smuggled in unique ways and has been inspired by Bollywood movies. However, no one had thought that Bappi Da would be used to bring in so much of gold openly. Even Hollywood producers haven’t made any movie with such a brilliant concept. We are sure they will copy it soon, like they have been doing over the years.
When we asked Bappi Da that how and why he agreed to bring in gold for others, he modestly replied, “Mai Hindustan ko fir se soney ki chidiya banana chahta hu!”
We asked him about the code word while handing over all the gold, “There is a lady waiting at the airport and her name is Mona. I just have to go and say, Mona ye lo sona. Like the good ol’ days,” he added with a smile.
