Customs arrests couple, recovers narcotics worth Rs 15m

KARACHI: The Customs authorities have arrested a couple and recovered narcotics worth Rs 15 million from them.

This was disclosed by Customs officers including Additional Collector Syed Asad Raza Rizvi, Deputy Collector International Departure, JIAP Ali Raza Turabi and Deputy Collector Arrivals Amjad Aman Leghari at a news conference held at Air Freight Unit here.

According to officers, while acting upon a tip-off, the Deputy Collector Departure intercepted two passengers namely Gul Sher son of Dhani Bux and his wife Reshma. Both the passengers were traveling to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for Umrah by Shaheen Airlines flight no NL 751 from Karachi.

The passengers were wearing Ahram who were asked to declare whether they were carrying any contraband goods viz narcotics or foreign currency etc in their baggage to which they denied.

Owing to information and strong suspicious their baggage comprising of a trolley suit case of purple color with marks as Monza brand soft zipper was examined which led to the recovery of 16 small polythene packets of heroin powder from four pairs of plastic chappals and two wrappers of Lux brand bath soap with a thin layer of soap were ripped open and recovered yellow heroin powder weighing 1,270 grams, the officers added.

The yellow heroin powder and amphetamine were instantly tested with a Testing Kit which gave positive inferences.

The heroine powder and amphetamine were seized along with containers thereof and traveling documents of the passengers after completion of all legal formalities, Customs officer elaborated.

The accused couple have been arrested while further investigation is in progress. Besides, an FIR has been lodged in the Court of Special Judge Narcotics under CNS Act, 1997.
