LARNACA: A 34-year-old man was found guilty by the Larnaca Assize court for importing 112 kilos of mephedrone, with the intent to ship it to the UK.
Mephodrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone (4-MMC) or 4-methylephedrone is a synthetic stimulant drug of the amphetamine and cathinone classes.
Old man was arrested on May 24, 2014 when he attempted to clear four plastic barrels containing the drug through customs at Larnaca airport. The barrels had arrived from Mumbai, India, through Dubai.
When the 34-year-old signed all documents – he was planning to ship the drugs to London – Drugs Squad officers arrested him. They found €1,000 in his possession along with documents to ship the barrels to the UK.
A 50-year-old man from Potamia village was also arrested after police found his name on the manifest. After spending 11 months in jail, the 50-year old was cleared of all charges.
