KARACHI: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General Shaukat Ali has said that the department has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to review the database of importers, who are availing green channel facility for the goods clearance.

Pakistan Customs clears imported consignments on the basis of three different categories, including red, orange and green. The consignments are cleared through green channel without assessment and examination. The Customs authority has urged the country’s top revenue body to revisit the list of importers after it found mis-declaration in consignments.

Around 45 percent of total $44.765 billion imports into the country are cleared through green channel that implies clearance without examination and assessment.

The DG revealed that the Customs authorities have caught a mis-declared consignment of an importer last week and four containers were seized. The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim cleared the consignments. At least three Customs officers, including two principal appraisers and one appraiser posted at Port Qasim, were also nominated in the FIR for assisting mis-declaration in this case.
