Customs ASO busts huge quantity of smuggled goods & betel nuts worth Rs20m

KARACHI: Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has busted huge quantity of smuggled goods worth millions of rupees including betal nuts in a successful raid.

Senior Intelligence Officer Akmal Hashmi informed Customs Today that during the search of the passenger bus bearing registration no BSD-888 and 22 wheeler truck bearing registration no TLN-191 smuggled betal Nuts were also recovered

Sources told that an authentic information was received regarding the smuggling of contraband goods through passengers buses over which the Directorate General Customs Intelligence and investigation (I&I) constituted a team to conduct raid against the same.

Along with the leads the Senior Intelligence Officer Akmal Hashmi of the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) raised the surveillance and increased the checking at the Quetta Karachi check post.

During the checking the team of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) intercepted a passenger bus as well a 22 wheeler truck and inquired the driver regarding the legal documents which he failed to provide. Complete search of the said passenger bus was carried during which smuggled contraband goods surfaced in huge quantity.

.Not only smuggled 19220 kilograms of betel nuts, Iranian origin High Speed Diesel (HSD), non customs paid cloths, 48 Iranian blankets, several bed sheets, smuggled 96 small and 30 big tyres, Indian origin Gutka, brand new engine of Civic car as well as several packets of foreign origin cigarettes along with other contraband goods were also recovered with worth Rs 20 million in the market.

The recovered contraband goods have been taken into the custody and the case has been registered against the heinous crime whereas further investigations are underway.
