Customs ASO seizes goods, vehicles worth Rs 74m in four months of FY2016-17

LAHORE: Customs Preventive’s Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has impounded non-customs paid vehicles and contraband goods worth Rs 74 million in 105 anti-smuggling actions during the first four months of the financial year 2016-17.

The ASO conducted 47 operations and seized non-customs paid vehicles, goods and articles worth Rs 45 million during the month of October 2016-17 against 15 operations of Rs 3.64 million which were conducted during the same period of the last financial year.

The ASO seized goods and vehicles worth Rs 7.93 million in 21 operations during September 2016-17 against Rs 12 seizures worth Rs 18 million during the same period of the last financial year.

Similarly the ASO impounded Rs 17 million non-customs paid vehicles and items in 29 operations during August 2016 against Rs 6.8 million 10 operations conducted during the same period last financial year.

The Anti-Smuggling Organization of the Customs Preventive under took eight operations against the illegal transportation of the goods and vehicles and seized goods and vehicles worth Rs 5 million during the same period of financial year 2015-16.

The major items which were confiscated included, tyres, mobiles, plastic dana, Iranian steel sheets, iron and steel coils, LCDs, cigarettes, Iranian gutka, Pan Prag, autoparts, plastic bags, generators, BOPP films grease, mobil oil and other items.

The ASO team conducted the operations on the directions of Collector of Customs Preventive Zulfiqar Younas led by the Assistant Collector Asim Awan and under the supervision of Superintendent Waqar Ahmad Cheema. The ASO team comprising Deputy Superintendent Ijaz Rasool Shah, Mazhar Butter, Inspectors Salim Shaid, Irfan Mumtaz Mahota, Sajjad Bukhari and others were also part of the raiding team.
