Customs ASO foils bid to smuggle betel nuts, gutka

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of betel nuts and Indian origin TwooneTwo gutka.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Tayyaba Kiyani received credible information about the smuggling attempt.  She immediately constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Moazzam Raza which also included Superintendent Agha Qadeer Haider, Inspector Nasir Saeed, Inspector Saleem Shahid and Inspector Chaudhary Aslam.

The above-mentioned team raided a truck adda of M/s Baba Farid Goods Transport and recovered three hundred bags filled with eight tons of prohibited betel nuts which were tactfully hidden under the bags of rice and were ready for supply to Karachi. Sources told that after registering a case of smuggling against the party, the team started further investigations.

Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence & Investigation team also impounded two non-duty paid vehicles from Defence and Johar Town. Both vehicles were plying on roads with forged number plates. Customs ASO team impounded the vehicles and started investigations.
