LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization on Saturday impounded 620 Samsung smart phones of assorted types and arrested a Chinese national reportedly attempting to dump the mobiles in Hall Road market.
Official sources told Customs Today that on secret information, the Customs ASO team raided a silver car and recovered six cartons of the Samsung smart mobile phone. The phones were new brand which were hidden in the cartons by the Chinese national, Cai Xian.
It was reported that the mobile phones were to be supplied at the Hall Road market. However, the customs authorities foiled the bid and recovered the mobile from the Chines national arresting him on the spot.
A senior Customs official on the condition of anonymity said the customs authorities have discovered that more such attempts may be made by the elements involved in mobile smuggling and the customs authorities have planned to raid on such places where the stock of the mobile is illegally dumped. The source said that the customs authorities have made arrangements to foil the bid to dump the stock in market illegally.
It was reporter that the total value of the smart mobile has been determined at Rs 6.2 million. It was said that all the 620 mobile were packed without the mobile batteries and other accessories.
The sources said that the Customs I&P after registering a case against the accused have started investigations to reach to the others elements involved in the illegal activity of mobile smuggling.
The raid was conducted by an ASO team led by Assistant Collector Asim Awan under the supervision of Superintendent Waqar Cheema.
