Customs ASO impounds over Rs2b contraband goods, vehicles

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) Anti-Smuggling Organization(ASO)  has seized over Rs2 billion contraband goods, vehicles during July 1 to November 14, 2020, registering a handsome growth of  367.73 percent as compared to the same period  last  financial.

According to the details, Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance, Lahore has thus delivered an unprecedented performance since the new financial year began in July 2020. The staff of Anti-Smuggling under leadership of Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi, and Additional Collector Mateen Alam, crossed Rs 2 billion mark in seizures since 1st July, 2020 showing a positive growth of  367.73 percent  as compared to same period last financial year.

The Customs staff raided 36 godowns recovering smuggled goods worth Rs840 million. Amongst the major items seized include smuggled/ non-duty paid dry fruits, tyres, skimmed milk, cigarettes, petroleum products and luxury vehicles.

The ASO team consisting  inspectors Abdul Hameed Bhatti, Abdur Rehman Butt, Nasir Saeed, Asghar Poorewal, Maratib Mushtaq, Abdul Ghaffar, Hassan Mahmood, Choudhry Yaqoob and Mr. Hafiz Mubashir was being headed by Assistant Collector Ali Tauqir.
