Customs ASO impounds Rs208m vehicles, goods during April

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive’s Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has impounded over Rs208 million non-customs paid luxury vehicles and items and registering over 50 cases during the month of April 2018.

The ASO teams impounded Rs 42 million non-customs paid vehicles and items and filed 50 cases from 1st April, 2018 against 36 cases filed during same period last financial year

Similarly, smuggled goods and non- custom paid cars of worth Rs32 million were confiscated during the month of April while smuggled goods of worth Rs176 million were impounded.

Sources said that on the directions of Collector Customs Faiz Ahmed, Additional Collector Custom Tayyaba Kiyani constituted team comprising of Superintendent Nasir Tarar, Agha Qadeer Haider, Inspector Amjad Khan, Nasir Saeed, Sajjad Bukhari, Maratib Mushtaq , Saeed Randhawa, Saleem Shahid and Azam Watoo in the supervision of Deputy Collector Custom Moazzam Raza. The team on the information of their informers took action by establishing check posts and recovered smuggled stuff.

Sources said that confiscated vehicles included Toyota Land Cruisers, Vitz, Coasters, Corollas and Honda Civic whereas smuggled gods included cigarettes of different brands, used imported tyres, engine oil, motorbike chain, old and new air conditioners, cable wire, cream soap, cloth of different brands, auto parts, artificial leather and different types of shampoos and other cosmetics.  It is necessary to mention here that Customs Preventive already adopted a comprehensive strategy to curb smuggling attempts in the region.
