Customs ASO impounds two illegally imported cars

LAHORE: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) car cell has impounded illegally imported cars worth Rs 3 million from Johar Town and Township, sources told Customs Today the other day.

Sources said that the customs ASO team intercepted a Honda Accord model 2005 in the Township area. The customs team comprising Deputy Superintendent Mazhar Butter and Inspector Sajjad Bukhari demanded the legal clearance documents against the vehicles. However, the owner failed to produce anything. The sources said that the car was being driven by one Faheem who is a resident of Township.

The customs authorities said that the value of the black Honda Accord is estimated at Rs 2.7 million. The Customs authorities after seizing the vehicles registered a case in this regard and sent the vehicle for forensic test.

During another raid, the Customs authorities seized an illegally imported Cultus from one Jamil who is a resident of Johar Town area near Revenue Society. The sources said that the car was imported illegally in 2003 and is valued at Rs 0.3 million. It was further informed that the accused when asked about the legal documents slipped away from the scene. The customs authorities seized the car and registered a case against the accused, the sources said.
