Customs ASO, PMSA join hands to raid against smugglers, intelligence sharing

KARACHI: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) and Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PSMA) have joined hands to further enhance cooperation between the two organizations.

According to the details, officers of the PSMA visited the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) here on Monday and held a meeting to further enhance the cooperation for better action against those involved in smuggling.

According to sources, PSMA Commander Wajid Ali and ASO Incharge Haji Muhammad Aslam headed the delegations during the meeting.

Both ASO and PSMA emphasized the need for further boosting cooperation in conducting raids against the culprits as well as sharing the intelligence information to curb smuggling through sea, land and air.

In a two hour long meeting, the two sides formulated the points and agenda of the meeting. Both the organizations assured full support to each other against the suspects involved in smuggling causing millions or rupees loss to the country, the sources said.

The sources also informed that the both sides also discussed different matters and cases of the recent mega seizures that held jointly in the limits of the international sea boundaries. On the other hand, points compiled during the meeting will be presented to the higher authorities for further instructions.

It is pertinent to mention that during that last four months Pakistan Customs Intelligence and Investigations ASO along with PSMA successfully carried out four actions that also include mega seizure 1.5 ton narcotics worth Rs 1.2 billion on January 5, 2017 as well as 100 kilograms of white crystal worth Rs 1 billion on December 20, 2016 in the international sea boundaries, the sources added.
