Customs ASO recovers huge quantity smuggled goods worth Rs 3m from passenger bus

ISLAMABAD: Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad team has seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods from a passenger bus.  The ASO squad intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration no MIB 9999 near Tarnol Interchange and recovered smuggled goods.

Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the bus was coming from Peshawar and was going to Rawalpindi when the staff asked the owner to show the goods verification certificate.

The Customs staff checked and found that document were not valid and the goods were 100 percent smuggled. The staff seized the goods according to Customs Act 1969 and brought the same to State Warehouse. The seized goods include66  LED TVs, 360kg ladies cloth, 3,120 bottles of Vatica Indian hair oil, 570 kg key locks and 60 kg ball bearings.

Shahid Jan said that recovered goods hold market value of Rs.3 million, adding that said seizer conducted by Superintendent Zargham Dil, Inspector Asif along with other staff.

He said that ASO performance to take actions against tax evader, goods smugglers and drug traffickers is satisfactory, he said that under the guidance of Collector MCC Islamabad the whole Preventive department is doing quality work.

He said that ASO seized miscellaneous smuggled goods under value of Rs10297355 million during first four months of financial year 2016-17, adding that Customs Collectorate Islamabad have been exceeded revenue collection target of customs duty during first quarter of FY16-17.

Shahid said that most of the smuggled items impounded during first four months of FY16-17 were comprises cloth, food grains, black tea, tires/tubes, auto parts, mobil oil, cigarettes, electronic goods, blankets, and miscellaneous goods and many offending vehicles.
