Customs ASO seizes huge quantity of betel nuts near SITE area

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) recovered 33,950 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts which were loaded on a Hino trolley near Metrowell bridge, SITE Area Karachi. The total amount of seizure is 57.24 million.

Sources said that an Afghan export cargo was seized in which under the cover load of apricots, 4,500 kgs of betel nuts was concealed. The total amount of seizure was Rs25.15 million.

Similarly, 2 buses and a Hiace vehicle were successfully chased and intercepted in the month of August. 8,180 kgs betel nuts was recovered from them. The total amount of these seizures were Rs49.7 million.

Total such seizures of Rs 132.10 were made in a month.

It is necessary to mention here that on the directives of Collector Preventive Feroz Alam Junejo, Additional Collector Umar Shafique and Assistant Collector Shafiullah adopted a comprehensive strategy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
