Customs ASO seizes huge quantity of smuggled goods, Mazda truck worth Rs 1.65m

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods along with offending vehicle worth Rs 1.65 million from Balkasar Interchange Motorway.

According to details Deputy Collector Shahid Jan, shared information that a huge consignment of smuggled goods will be transported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will cross Balkasar Interchange late night.

The deputy collector said that after getting the information, the ASO staff formed a squad and made a picket at Balkasar Motorway Interchange which intercepted a Mazda truck coming from Peshawar. The deputy collector said that the ASO squad asked the driver to show the relevant documents that the goods loaded on the Mazda truck were not smuggled but the possessors failed to provide any evidence.

The deputy collector said that the smuggled goods consisted of foreign origin cosmetics, warm fabric and tropical fabric. The ASO also seized the Mazda EA-2887 under Customs Act of 1969 clause 57 and sent the both to State Warehouse for further investigations.

Shahid Jan said that the ASO squad, who took part in the action, included Superintendent Zargam Dil and Deputy Superintend Rana Shakeel along with other inspectors and joiner staff. The ASO staff filed an FIR against smugglers and forwarded the case to Prosecution and Investigation Department.
