MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Sargodha squad recovered huge quantity of foreign origin skimmed milk powder of Iran origin worth Rs8.05 million near Kot Momin Sargodha.
According to details, field intelligence unit (FIU) Sargodha received credible information that huge quantity of skimmed milk powder will be transported through Sargodha to Mandi Bahauddin Region. Collector Muneeza Majeed directed Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh to thwart their attempt of smuggling.
Additional Collector formed special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization to take strict action against smuggled goods in jurisdiction.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Sargodha squad started patrolling of suspected routes and intercepted a ten-wheeler truck near Kot Momin which was loaded with foreign origin skimmed milk powder during examination of goods.
Customs teams asked driver to provide legal documents of foreign origin skimmed milk. Driver provided irrelevant GDs which did not match the goods. Upon failure in providing relevant import documents of skimmed milk powder, Customs anti-smuggling team decided to seize skimmed milk powder after thorough examination.
The recovered skimmed milk were Iran origin and said were smuggled through clandestine routes in the country and they were trying to transport non-duty paid skimmed milk in the local markets of Punjab. Driver of the vehicle informed Customs staff that said goods were coming from Quetta and their destination was Mandi Bahauddin.
The total worth of the seized skimmed milk was almost Rs.8.05 million. The recovered skimmed milk was packed in the 965 bags of polythene and net weight of skimmed milk powder was almost 24 tons. The truck along with goods was subsequently detained and deposited at State Ware House Faisalabad. Anti-Smuggling squad seized Skimmed milk powder along with vehicle under Customs act 1969.
The net worth of skimmed milk along with vehicle was almost Rs28.13 million. Further investigations were under process.
