ISLAMABAD: Seema Raza Bokhari Collector Customs Islamabad has said that allocated annual anti-smuggling target for current financial year 2019-20 was Rs1.75 billion which has already achieved with extra amount of Rs2.15 million till May 2020.
Talking with Customs Today the Collector said that business activity fully halted due to COVID19, she added that as all the Customs Collectorates of country facing shortfall in revenue, the MCC Islamabad also facing decline in revenue side.
Respond to a query about walk through sanitizer gate for prevention against COVID-19 which was under consideration to install at entry point of Customs House, the Collector replied that she come to know that walk-through sanitizer gate is harmful and cause spreading virus meanwhile we tried our best to ensure all measures for safety of our staff using masks, gloves and sanitizers.
Answering to a query that when the MCC GB (Gilgit Baltistan) will reopen for seasonal business activity, Seema Raza who got additional charge of collector GB replied that due to COVID-19 the Pak-China border SUST of GB is not in function, mostly season at GB started during end of May but it is still closed due to pandemic.
Telling the details of anti-smuggling performance, she said that during month of May 2020 the ASO (anti-smuggling organization) Islamabad have surpassed assigned Rs115 million targets with extra amount of Rs161 million, telling performance details between July to May 2019-20 she said that ASO seized Rs2.15 billions of goods including NDP (non-duty paid) vehicles, offending vehicles (vehicles using to carry smuggled goods) along various other smuggled goods, she added that during said period the ASO seized 159 numbers of NDP vehicles in value of Rs.879 million while seized 103 numbers of offending vehicles in worth of Rs.278 million.
Providing further details the Collector said that ASO seized 70586 kg of foreign origin fabric worth Rs130 million, 3300 kg of betel nuts worth Rs8.6 million, food grain 2700 kg worth Rs2.4 million, 5280 kg of tea worth Rs3.7 million, 3946 tyres tube worth Rs111.95 million, 31818 numbers of smuggled foreign origin auto spare parts in value of Rs12.8 million, 54 numbers of liquor bottles in value of Rs0.2 million, 4800 liters of diesel Rs 0.96 million, 500 liters Mobil oil value Rs0.24 million, fake foreign origin smuggled cigarettes value of Rs82 million, electronic goods in value of Rs.40.78 million, 1700 carpets in worth of Rs0.5 million, toys Rs. 0.3 million, Indian origin pan prag and zafrani pati in value of Rs.3 million and the ASO Islamabad seized miscellaneous foreign origin goods Rs594 million.
