ABUJA: The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Area 1 Command Port Harcourt, has realised N2.98billion in its revenue generation for the month of August, 2017. The Command also surpassed its revenue target in the same period with N300million. The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Command, Comptroller Kabiru. Isiyaku, disclosed this in a document signed and made available to Vanguard by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Okwara Ngozi. explained that despite the challenge of low importation to the port under the coverage of the Command, revenue collection has not declined. She said, “The statutory function of this Command is collection of revenue through import/excise duties as well as other taxes, and accounting for same.

In spite of low activity of work force in the Command as it relates to generation of revenue, the CAC has not relented on his stride to motivate officers positively in other areas. This includes in-house capacity building programmes for officers due to mass transfer from Enforcement Unit to the port, in order to ensure maximum revenue collection as well as blockage of revenue leakages in the Command. Since the arrival of Comptroller Isiyaku, the Command has improved tremendously on its revenue collection and operational efficiency”. She added, “Other projects embarked upon by the CAC include renovation of dilapidated building and offices to enhance a conducive working environment and provision of medicament at the Command’s clinic for the well being of officers”. In the same vein, the CAC attributed the success recorded by his Command to the focus and drive of officers, to achieve the targets given by the top Customs management. “My mandate by CGC Hameed Ali is to ensure that the Command adheres to the core values of the Service in all ramifications”, he said.
