KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs authorities have accepted a plea by clearing agents, seeking to adjourn a hearing with regards to the import of cars on fake bill of lading and master bill of lading.
The sources informed Customs Today that most of the clearing agents, to whom show cause notices were issued, asked the customs authorities to adjourn the hearing for 10 days.
One of the senior officers in MCC-Appraisement (West) has confirmed the said development made into the case and stated that the Customs authorities will provide complete opportunity to the clearing agents to present their view point into the cases leveled against them in clearance of cars after crossing the legitimate age-limit.
Responding to a query, the senior officer said that the clearing agents as the “aggrieved party” have a right to present their view point into the case and the Customs authorities will listen their view point and decided the case as per the merit of rules and laws, prescribed in the Customs Act, 1969.
It may be mentioned here that the MCC-Appraisement (West) has recently issued show-cause notice against the 37 clearing agents and fixed the hearings into the cases in the Office of the Additional Collector-I of MCC-Appraisement (West) Dr Ifthikar Ahmed on 31-Jan. However; most of the clearing against were requested adjournment for 10-days in order to plea their cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that the MCC-Preventive has also issued 12 show cause notices to shipping agents in this regard and compiling the data as per the provided documents.
