Customs ‘black sheeps’ creating fear for importers

FAISALABAD: The purpose of high esteemed department of customs is to facilitate the business community of the country and to curb the menace of smuggling to save the economy of Pakistan.

This was stated by Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries Vice President Nadeem Iqbal Allah Walay while talking to Customs Today. He added that the government establishes different institutions or departments to provide investment-friendly environment to the traders, importers and exporters of the Pakistan but not to threaten them.

“For import/export sector customs has key position as its main objective is to facilitate business community, besides clearing the consignments of traders on priority basis so they could develop their business more and more which would ultimately bring employment opportunities for youth and increase the tax to GDP ratio,” he said

Nadeem added that importers were facing problems in clearance of their consignments at many dry ports and sea ports and due to this reason they have to divert to other ports for clearance of shipments.

Nadeem said that some ‘black sheeps’ in customs not only ruin the credibility of the department for their vested interests but also causing destruction for the businessmen.

He urged the high ups to take action against such corrupt elements in the large interest of the county and investors.
