KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has beefed up its surveillance to curb smuggling through sea and airports as well as through different land routes of the country.
According to details, the Pakistan Customs and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), in a combined operations with other law enforcement agencies, raided various places to stop trafficking of purported spurious drugs and contraband items. The authorities seized a cache of controlled drugs, which were wrapped in the consignment of cloth being exported to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The confiscated drugs were weighing 48 kilogram, sources said.
As per initial report, the confiscated drug quantity bears six different batch numbers that were wrapped in bundles of clothes. The team also took the sample of drug on prescribed Form-3 as per DRAP Act 2012 and Drug Act, 2017 and sent to Central Drug Laboratory, Karachi for detailed test and analysis.
An FIR has also been lodged against the culprits and the case is under investigation with Custom and DRAP. Further actions are under progress too.
It is pertinent to mention that such controlled drug molecule intermittently become short in the market of country which might be due to reason of its illicit trafficking by such means. The drug prices in the gulf region are much higher compared to Pakistan and India is argued to be another reason for smuggling of such drugs.
In two other separate raids the Pakistan Customs and Police foiled bids to smuggle Iranian origin High Speed Diesel (HSD) and Pine Cigarettes in huge quantity after a hassle full chase.
In a raid of Pakistan Customs along with Police team of saeedabad Police Station a culprit named Kaleemullah s/o Abdul Hakim was arrested and two hundred eighty liter smuggled Iranian origin High Speed Diesel (HSD) loaded on motorcycle No KDQ-5731 was recovered, FIR No 420/2017 u/s 2i5/286 PPC is also registered.
On the other hand In an action against smugglers contraband articles was recovered by the customs as well as the Police team of Karachi west during which a culprit Qudratullah son of Gul Akbar was arrested after a chase.
From the possession of the culprit four bags of smuggled PINE cigarettes was recovered in a raid wheras seized u/s 550 CRPC. The recovered two hundred eighty liter smuggled Iranian origin High Speed Diesel (HSD) as well as the seized Pine cigarettes have been taken in to the custody of the Pakistan Customs Custom for further legal proceedings accordingly.
The recovered drugs, smuggled Iranian origin High Speed Diesel (HSD) as well as the smuggled Pine Cigarettes worth millions of rupees in the International market.
