PESHAWAR: The customs bylaws provide protection to the national moving reserves, said Collector Customs Gull Rahman in a talk with Customs Today on Wednesday at Peshawar.
The customs bylaws through checking of export and import consignments ensure that every way of smuggling of Non-Duty-Paid goods is blocked.
The collector customs said the customs officials posted on the international borders with Afghanistan and Iran earn millions of revenue each month by seizing cross-border NDP items.
Often customs staff engages with importers and exporters in order to know about any hurdle being faced by them while clearing consignments or traveling to their desired destinations, the collector added.
To a question about the duties and functions of the FBR inspectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Collector Customs said that often the inspectors report about the illegal goods concealed in containers with goods whose documents are approved and a number of vehicles laden with containers packed with urea, fruits and cements are seized on the same charge.
The Collector Customs further stated that slight mistake from the side of Customs staff can cause the national exchequer a big loss therefore strict orders are issued to check every vehicle which carries goods for the purpose of business.
The customs staff always issues directions to the FBR inspectors on the relevant SRO and strict actions are taken once they are found exceeding their powers, the collector further said.
The Collector Customs further said that, in current month, the Customs Peshawar has impounded NDP goods and vehicles worth Rs205.67million on Torkham Border with Afghanistan.
Apart from strict checking on Torkham Border, the Customs Department has also tightened its Customs procedures along China and Iran borders for which steps have already been taken.
The Collector Customs added that the Collectorate of Peshawar has been working intensively to establish the Customs Acts along the borders to economically safeguard the country.
