ISLAMABAD: The Car Cell of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) has impounded a non-duty-paid Toyota Passo car, model 2007, valued Rs1.2million.
According to details told by sources of MCC to Customs Today that in pursuance of an information shared by Collector MCC Dr Arslan, the car cell set up a picket at Saddar (Rawalpindi) and intercepted a non-duty paid car with registration No: AAA 649 SIBI.
The car cell staff asked the driver to provide original documents of the vehicle but he failed to do so. After the firsthand investigation, the car cell impounded the vehicle and brought it to the state warehouse. The appraised value of the vehicle was Rs1.2million. An FIR has been lodged against the owner of the vehicle and further investigation is underway.
The authorities concerned revealed that the documents of the car were forged. The car has been impounded under the Customs Act-1969 and the documents of the vehicle have been sent for further examination to the I&P Department. The car was coming from Chaman (Balochistan) to Swat.
During the first quarter of the Financial Year 2016-17, the car cell collected Rs20.95 million during the abovementioned period. During the month of March 2016-17, the car cell seized six NDP vehicles valued Rs21.22million.
