Customs Car Cell impounds NDP vehicle worth Rs05.00m

ISLAMABAD: The Car Cell of the Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad has impounded a Non-Duty Paid Mazda RX-7 sports car with no documentary record. The vehicle was seized by the Car Cell Islamabad after getting a tip-off sent through the collector office. The value of the seized vehicle was estimated Rs05.00 million.

According to Assistant Collector Preventive Majid Hussain Gaad, the Anti-Smuggling staff has sent the car to forensic lab for test.

The customs authorities believed that either car was smuggled or illegally bought. The customs has registered an FIR against one Aatif Rafique S/o Muhammad Rafique, a resident of Chaklala, Rawalpindi. The FIR has been filed under Section 2 and 16 of the Customs Act-1969.

The accused has been issued with notice to attend the office on 17-3-2017 so that investigation of the case can be finalized. The customs car cell and the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) have collected Rs222.72 million revenue by impounding 163 vehicles during the first seven months (July to January) of Financial Year (FY) 2016-17.

During the above said period, the customs car cell impounded 63 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 114.37 million. He said the customs ASO department collected Rs6.2 million revenue by seizing four offending vehicles during the last week of Januray 2017. The customs car cell generated Rs2.2 million revenue by seizing 2 Non-Duty Paid vehicles.
