ISLAMABAD: The car cell of the Model Customs Collectorate has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Corolla car from Motorway. The value of the car is Rs 1.5 million.
According to details, Deputy Collector Shahid Jan told Customs Today that in pursuance of the information shared by sources, the car cell made a picket on Motorway and intercepted the non-duty paid car bearing registration No LEC 4526. The car cell staff asked the driver to provide original documents of the car, but he failed to do so. He said that after the firsthand investigation the car cell seized the vehicle and brought it to the state warehouse, adding the estimated value of the vehicle was Rs 1.5 million. An FIR has been lodged against the owner of the vehicle and further investigation is underway.
The authorities concerned revealed that the documents of the car were forged. The car has been impounded under the Customs Act 1969 and the documents of vehicle have been sent for further examination to the I&P department. The car was coming from Chaman (Balochistan) to Swat, the deputy collector said, adding that the FBR has issued special instructions to the Customs Department to make appropriate steps to arrest smugglers and curb the transfer of non-duty paid vehicles.
He said the car cell is performing well and seized 19 bodies of the changed illegal vehicles during the first quarter of the financial year 2016-17, adding that the “body change vehicle is not allowed.” He said that the car cell collected Rs 20.95 million during the abovementioned period.
