Customs impounds Toyota Crown worth Rs 2.8m

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate car cell impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Crown Royal Saloon car worth Rs 2.8 million. The vehicle was seized from Rawalpindi.

Sources told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling car cell received information through collector office that a non-duty paid vehicle bearing registration number AAU-993 ICT Islamabad was roaming on roads with fake documentation.

In pursuance of the information, the car cell reached Kashmiri Bazaar Rawalpindi where the custom staff intercepted Crown Royal Saloon car model 2005. After interception of the vehicle, the squad asked the owner to produce legal documents of the possession of the vehicle but the owner failed to show any relevant documents.

After scrutiny of documents it was revealed that the owner of the vehicle is operating car on fake documents. Customs car cell Superintendent Chaudhary Safdar and other supporting staff impounded the vehicle under Customs Act 1969 and the documents of vehicle have been sent for further examination to Customs Investigation and Prosecution departments.

The sources said that FBR has issued special instructions to customs department to take effective measures against smugglers and owners of non duty paid vehicles.

Sources said that customs car cell told that FIR has been registered against the offender for having fake documents NDP vehicle and further investigation is under process the sources said.

It is also necessary to mention here that Deputy Collector Shahid Jan issued strict instructions to customs car cell staff to adopt zero tolerance policy against owners of non duty paid vehicles.
