Customs Central Region collects Rs 87.64b as customs duty in nine months

LAHORE: Customs Central Region has achieved nine percent growth by collecting customs duty to the tune of Rs 87.64 billion during nine months of the financial year 2014-15 against Rs 80.38 billion during the same period of last financial year.

The collectorate collected customs duty from the dry ports including Mughalpura Dry Port, NLC Dry Port Thokar Niaz Baig, Prame Nagar and other such areas.

Customs Preventive, on the other hand, attained a growth of 37 percent by achieving Rs 23.21 billion against Rs 16.93 billion during the same period last year.

The Lahore Preventive showed excellent performance by achieving additional growth of 10 percent as compared to the same period during the last financial year.

The Lahore Preventive collected customs duty from import and export section of Allama Iqbal International Airport and Anti-Smuggling Organisation.

MCC Multan collected Rs 23.96 billion during the period under review against Rs 25.83 billion during the last financial year.

MCC Faisalabad collected Rs 4.53 billion as customs duty missing the financial year’s target by 15 percent. Earlier, the collectorate collected Rs 4,541.92 million during FY 2013-14.

Central Region Chief Collector Rozi Khan Burki has arranged a number of review meetings with the collectors of Lahore Appraisement Zahid Khokhar, Lahore Preventive Mukarram Jah Ansari and Faisalabad Collector Sarfraz Warraich in order to achieve the revenue target for the current fiscal year.

Official source told Customs Today that the review meeting held by the chief collector had positive impact on the overall collection of revenue.
