LAHORE: The Customs Central Region collected Rs 29 million as federal excise duty (FED) during first 15 days of November 2016 posting a growth of 46 percent as compared to the same period of last financial year.
As per the details, the Lahore Customs Appraisement collected Rs 7 million, while the Lahore Customs Preventive collected Rs 17 million FED during the said period.
The Model Customs Collectorate of Multan collected Rs 4 million FED and the Faisalabad Customs generated zero tax during the period under review. It may be mentioned here that the Faisalabad Customs generated Rs 1.88 million during last year.
The central region has been assigned Rs 39 million federal excise duty collection target against the target of Rs 19 million during the same period last financial year. Sources said that the collectors of all the four collectorates have been told to do more efforts to meet financial year’s targets while the Customs Central Region Chief Collector Samaira Nazir has also been monitoring all the revenue collection from all stations that come under the limits of the region.
It has also been reported that she has been extensively travelling and having fruitful meetings with the collectors and guiding them accordingly to meet targets.
Anti-Smuggling Organisation
The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized three non-duty paid vehicles from various localities in the city.
The ASO team under the supervision of Assistant Collector Asim Awan team led by Waqar Cheema intercepted a Parado 2006 near Ravi Toll Plaza and impounded the vehicle worth Rs 2.5 million when the owner failed to produce legal clearance documents.
In another operation, the ASO team impounded Nissan Sports model 2006 worth Rs 3 million from Minar-e-Pakistan.
Similarly, the team also impounded a Land Cruise 1998 model near Jinnah Hospital. The value of the vehicle was estimated at Rs 2 million.
Deputy Superintendent Mazhar Bhutter, Inspectors Shahid Abbas, Sajad Bukhari and others were also part of the ASO team in the operations against non-duty paid vehicles.
