MCC Lahore preventive collects Rs 15.801 billion, up 44 pc
LAHORE: The Customs Central Region has collected customs duty (CD) Rs 58,472 million during the first half of financial year 2014-15 against Rs 56,343 million during the same period of the corresponding year.
The revenue collection is four percent up than the corresponding period. The MCC Lahore Preventive collected Rs 15,801 million which is 44 percent more against the total collection of Rs 10,950 million during the same period of corresponding year. The MCC Lahore Appraisement collected Rs 23,646, up 2 percent against Rs 23,248 million during the same period of the last year while the MCC Multan collected CD of Rs 15,768 million against Rs 18,859 million.
On the other hand, the MCC Faislabad collected CD of Rs 3,257 million during the period under review against Rs 3,284 million during the same period last year. Overall the central region collected Rs 58,471 million showing an improvement of 4 percent when compared to the first half of the financial year 2013-14.
Following the completion of first half of FY 2014-15, Central Region Chief Collector Customs Rozi Khan Burki held a revenue review meeting with all the four collectors of customs of the region. Sources said that the chief collector of customs reviewed the six months revenue collection performance of the collectorates – MCC, Lahore appraisement, MCC preventive, MCC Faislabad and MCC Multan.
The collectors who attended the review meeting included collector of customs preventive Mukarram Jah, collector of customs appraisement Muhammad Zahid Khokhar, MCC Faislabad collector Tauseef Qureshi and MCC Multan collector Sarfraz Ahmad Waraich. The chief collector of Customs stressed upon the need to jack up revenue collection and instructed the collectors to prepare action plan for the collection of the revenues in order to hit the target for the financial year 2014-15. The collectors on the other hand briefed the chief collector about their future strategy for the revenue collection. The collectors also briefed the chief on the revenue collection of the first half. However, the MCC preventive remained in the limelight because of its better performance among all the four collectorates.
Collector of Customs Mukarram Jah while talking to Customs Today said that additional 44 percent collection of Customs Duty and other taxes was made possible because of proper collection of all the additional taxes Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently imposed on electronics, soyabeen and others. “Our imports have reduced from Rs 92 billion in the first half of FY 2013-14 to 90 in the same period of FY 2014-15,” the collector of Customs preventive added.
