LAHORE: The Customs Central Region has collected over Rs 20 billion as customs duty during seven months — from July to January of fiscal year 2014-15 — attaining an overall growth of 3 percent against Rs 19.95 billion during that the same period of last year.
According to details, Collectorate of Customs Lahore Preventive collected customs duty of Rs 4.70 billion registering an impressive growth of 53 percent against Rs 3.08 billion during the same period.
According to Collector Customs Preventive Lahore Mukarram Jah Ansari, remarkable growth of 53 percent is mainly due to proper collection of additional taxes imposed by the Federal Board of Revenue on commodities.
He recently cleared that imports have declined to Rs 90 billion from 92 billion during the period.
MCC Lahore Appraisement collected customs duty of Rs 9.74 billion registering a growth of 2 percent against Rs 9.55 billion during the same period last financial year.
MCC Faisalabad has collected customs duty of Rs 1.196 billion during the period under review registering a growth of Rs 7 percent against Rs 1.11 billion during the same period last FY.
MCC Multan gathered Rs 4.899 billion during the period under review against Rs 6.19 billon during the same period last year.
Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Tariq Bajwa has visited the Customs House Lahore and had hours long meeting with the Chief Collector Customs Rozi Khan Burki and collectors of the region including Lahore Preventive Mukarram Jah Ansari, MCC Multan Collector Sarfraz Wariach and MCC Appraisement Lahore Additional Collector Irfan Wahid. Sources told that the collectors told Chairman FBR about improved performance of their respective collectorates.
They resolved that despite all odds they will achieve targets assigned to them by the Board.
