LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has adjourned the bail plea of a suspect who was arrested by the customs authorities in a currency smuggling incident.
Sources told Customs Today that Shafqat Ali Ihsan was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore while he was allegedly making an attempt to smuggle foreign currency equivalent to Pakistani Rs 130 million. The currency was hidden in his bags in very technical way. He had moved a post arrest bail plea to the customs court that is adjourned by the special judge of the court, Chaudary Ameer Muhammad Khan.
Shafqat Ali Ihsan has also moved his bail petition before Lahore High Court (LHC) where Justice Shamas Mhemood Mirza has denied to hear the case due to some reasons. Justice Shamas Mehmood Mirza has sent file of the case back to Chief Justice to hand over case to any other bench.
