Customs Court adjourns hearing of cases due to non-availability of judge

KARACHI: The Customs Court adjourned the hearing of 17 cases related to customs and income tax due to leave of Customs Court judge Faiz Rasool Rashdi. Therefore, the hearings were adjourned until the next date.

According to the cause list, 5 out of 17  cases were fixed for formal hearing of the accused namely Shakeel Siddiqui and others, Nasir and others, Muhammad Azam and others, Abdul Shakeel and others. Seven out of overall 17 cases were fixed for prosecution evidences against accused Ahmed Chudhary, Raja Muhammad Zafar Khan, Hameed Gul and others, Ijaz Butt and others.

Five cases were fixed for confirmation of bails of accused namely Muhammad Intizar Rana and others, Muhammad Saifullah and others, Safeer Ahmed and others, Muhammad Altaf and others.

It needs to be mentioned here the customs court had postponed the hearing 19 cases related to customs and income tax due to the boycott of lawyers on the call of Pakistan Bar Council against the killing of Balochistan Bar Association’s president and over 70 people at Quetta’s Civil Hospital.

On Monday, the Judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) were informed that Pakistan Bar Council has announced full day strike against the killing of over 70 innocents people including President of Balochistan Bar Association. Therefore, courts postponed the hearing of more than 70 cases related to custom and income tax without any proceedings.
