Customs Court approves after arrest bail of suspect booked in betel nuts smuggling

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved after arrest bail of suspect namely Abdul Sattar son of Abdul Ghaffar, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle 5000 kilograms betel nuts.

On June 03, 2019, counsel for the accused moved after arrest bail petition and argued that applicant is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail and giving surety before the court, therefore, court may grant his after arrest bail.

After the hearing, court granted his after arrest bail against surety of Rs100,000 and directed him to appear on next date of hearing before this court.

According to the interim charge sheet on an-actionable information, customs team intercepted one Renault Trawler bearing registration no: TLE-200 and during the search found 250 PP bags containing foreign origin betel nuts weighing 5000 kg worth Rs1,029,000.

He argued that after the formalities, customs teams arrested the above mentioned suspect and goods also were taken custody and seized.

He submitted that during the investigation, it is established that said accused persons have thus committed an offence with the others under section 2 (s) of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid.

After the hearing, court approved interim charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspects namely Karim Jan son of Wahid Buksh and Abdul Hakeem son of Nawab Khan and directed investigation officer to arrest and produce him on next date of hearing, court also directed investigation officer to complete investigation and submit final charge sheet against them.
