Customs Court approves bail of Appraiser Tahir Khan involved in tax evasion

RAWALPINDI : Customs Court granted bail to accused Appraiser Mohammad Tahir Khan who is involved in mis-declaration and tax evasion amounting to Rs.14.962 million.

Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Rawalpindi, Shahid Jan told Customs Today that accused Appraiser AFU Islamabad, Mohammad Tahir Khan who was indicted under violation of section 32, and 156 of Customs Act was produced before the Customs Court Rawalpindi. During the hearing, the Customs Court accepted the bail appeal of the accused. However the trial of case is still underway.

It is also learnt that the importer and clearing agent involved in the said case also got Bail Before Arrest (BBA) from the court.

Shahid Jan further told that if the court decision came against the accused Tahir Khan, he could face a fine or imprisonment of 3-10 years or both.

It is also important to mention here that Appraiser Mohammad Tahir Khan was involved in illegal clearance of consignment imported by M/s Hunbul Tex (Pvt) Ltd Lahore which evaded duty & taxes by mis-declaring its description, value and PCT heading and the Customs I&I registered FIR No.10/2018 against him.
