Customs Court approves bail of lady in gold smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved after arrest bail of suspect namely Rehana Akhtar daughter of Muhammad Ishaq against the surety of Rs2,00,000 and directed her to appear on next date of hearing, she was nominated in first information report (FIR) for smuggling of 22 kg gold bangles etc.

On 26 January 2021, during the hearing, counsel for the above-mentioned lady appeared before the court and filed an application for bail and argued that his client has been falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail, therefore, court may grant her bail till final judgment in this case.

After the hearing, court granted her bail and directed her to appear before the court on next date of hearing.

Earlier, investigation officer Collectorate of Customs JIAP produced her before the court and informed that on an incredible information, officials of the customs department accordingly strict surveillance was mounted and vigil eyes were kept on incoming passengers, resultantly a lady namely Rehana Akhtar arrived from Dubai by flight no EK 606 was intercepted at Green Channel and she was asked to declare if she carrying any contraband or valuable goods in her baggage or on her person to which she replied in negative.

He further informed the court that being dissatisfied with her declaration, her baggage comprising on one black color trolley bag, two blankets and one ladies’ purse was subjected to examination and during the examination, customs officials found No 22, 22 kg gold bangles total weighing 485.680 grams valuing of Rs4, 811, 146.

He said that after the formalities, customs officials arrested said lady and goods were also seized and first information report has been lodged against her and another suspect namely Muhammad Hussain son of Essa, who is still absconder and prosecution is tying its best for his arrest and he would be produce before the court when arrested.
