KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspect namely Inamullah son of Abdul Qahir who was arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid polyester dyed fabric, betel nuts etc.
On November 15, 2019, the above mentioned suspect appeared before the court along with his counsel and moved after arrest bail petition, he argued that his client is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case and he is ready to surrender before the court and facing trail, therefore, court may grant his bail till final order in this case.
After the hearing, court granted his bail and directed him to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
According to the first information report (FIR) on an actionable information, Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) intercepted Daewoo passenger bus Al-Habib coach bearing registration number LES-6300 and during the search found 1207 kg betel nuts valuing of Rs603,500. 1332 yards micro velvet 500gm cloth valuing of Rs204,744. 3120 yards polyester Dyed fabric made in China, valuing of Rs192,875. 1020 yards un-dyed (Gray) cloth valuing of Rs56,250. 02 Ovation brand tyres made in China valuing of Rs80,000.
He further disclosed that during the no-one claimed ownership of said goods, therefore, customs team arrested bus driver and also seized said bus. After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and adjourned the case for regular hearing. Court also issued notices to customs department on after arrest bail application filed by suspect.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
