KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Ali Ashar son of Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Tariq son of Muhammad Anwar, who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 35580 liters high speed diesel of Iranian origin.
On September 27, 2018, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Preventive’s Anti-Smuggling Organization has submitted interim challan and informed the court that on credible information, a team of customs department intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number: TMD-389 near Lucky Chowrangi, RCD Highway, Karachi and recovered 35580 liters smuggled and non-duty paid HSD oil.
He submitted that during the search, suspects were asked to provide lawful documents of said oil; however, they failed to produce any lawful documents; therefore, after the formalities, customs officials seized the said oil on the spot.
He further informed the court that prosecution needs further investigations from the accused for arrest of owner of said oil; therefore, court may send them back to customs lock-up.
After the hearing, court sent them back to customs department on physical remand and directed customs officer to produce them on next date of hearing along with progress report.
According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of under Section 2 (s), 156(2), 157 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid read with Section 3 (i) of Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
