Customs Court approves bail of suspects in HSD smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Tasleem Shah, Naseem-Ul-Haq, TallahZar, Ikram Khan, Tahir Ahmed, Muhammad Asif and Naseebzar, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 20602 liters High Speed Diesel.

On March 02, 2019, counsel for the accused moved bail petition and argued that his clients are innocents and falsely implicated in this case, who are ready to submit bond as surety, therefore, court may grant their bail till final judgment in this case.

After the hearing, court granted bail to suspects against the surety of Rs10,000 each and directed them to appear on next date of hearing without fail.

According to the first information report, specially designed wooden launch namely Al-Sher Jan painted BFD-13301 –duty paid HSD registered in Gwadar was going to transport smuggled HSD for delivery at Karachi coastal area.

Customs officials intercepted wooden launch and recovered 20602 liters HSD oil and, suspects namely Tasleem Shah, Naseem-Ul-Haq, TallahZar, Ikram Khan, Tahir Ahmed, Muhammad Asif and Naseebzar were asked to produce lawful documents, however, they failed to produce any lawful documents, therefor, all suspects were taken into custody and goods along with wooden launch also seized.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under Section 2 (s) 156 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clauses 89 and 85 of Section 156 (1) read with Section 3 of Import & Export Control Act, 1950 and s. no 6 of part-I and s.no 221 of part-III of appendix-B of import policy order, 2016 as amended vide SRO-1067 (I0/2017, dated 20/10/2017, further read with Section 3(i) and 3(iii) of the Imports & Exports Control Act, 1950.
