Customs Court approves challan in gold smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against suspect namely Muhammad Hussain son of Kabir Ahmed, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle one gold bullion (10 tola, 24 k) bearing marks ARY SR No. 116518 tentative value of Rs 710,000.

On June 3, 2019, investigation officer of Customs Collectorate Jinnah International Airport submitted interim charge sheet against the above mentioned suspect and informed the court that he was engaged in clearance of baggage of outgoing passengers of various flights bound for different international destinations, meanwhile Airport Security Officials including Adeel Bhutti, AD/ Incharge Sector Commander came and handed over one gold bullion along with an outgoing passenger Muhammad Hussain leaving for Bangkok by Thai Airline.

He further informed the court that during the investigation, suspect was asked to produce lawful documents of said gold, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, gold was seized and he also was taken into customs custody.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) (15) (16) of the customs act 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
