KARACHI: The Customs Court issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect namely Muhammad Siddiq son of Sultan Muhammad, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts, foreign origin mobile phones.
On June 24, 2019, investigation officer submitted interim charge sheet against the above mentioned suspect and informed the court that an information was received that betel nuts were being transported in a passenger bus Al-Muneer Movers bearing registration no BSA-700 arriving from Quetta.
He further informed that during the search, customs officials found 3 PP bags of assorted seized & weight containing foreign origin betel nuts 85 kilograms worth Rs16,839. One bundle containing 77 Samsung mobile phone made in Vietnam valuing of Rs1,155,000 and 18 Samsung A-50 made in Malaysia valuing of Rs450,000.
He further argued that prosecution is trying to arrest him and he will be produced before the court when arrested.
After the hearing, court approved interim charge sheet and issued non-bail able warrants against absconding suspect.
According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of Imports & Export Control Act, 1950.
